Doing a 1-day detox is a great re-set, giving your system a break, so it can turn some of that otherwise tied up energy into cleaning up. While longer detox diets may be gentler on the body and more effective, you can still benefit from a one-day cleanse. Even a 24 hour detox diet cleanse can leave you feeling lighter, stronger, more focused and fresher, as if your insides have been recharged.
When preparing for a one day detox diet, you’ll want to eat light and healthfully for the few days prior to beginning your detox program. A day to detox is a perfect opportunity for you to detox other parts of your life through journaling, napping, practicing yoga and meditating. It can be the right time to decide to make other healthy choices in your life such as changing your diet, making relationship decisions and lifestyle changes.
Green is the new Gold! Fresh green juices are one of the best ways to fill your body with incredible nutrition, easy to digest energy, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and a pleasant sensation of fullness that will help with maintaing the right weight for your own body. Greens (and especially in fresh juiced form) even help to generate feelings of comfort and being loved. Love from yourself for taking such good care of your wonderful body, but also, that feeling of being satiated and nourished creates a state of happiness and clarity in your brain (and also to your overall moods) both of which are so important . Look at your detox day as a day of looking after you. Some other things that support an effective detox are dry skin brushing, infrared sauna, rebounding and walking. Ditch the TV.
Adding fiber to “sweep” the intestines is also helpful. Fibre promotes the elimination of toxins and also binds to toxins, which helps to prevent their absorption. Dietary fibre is also metabolized by gut bacteria into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which feed the cells lining the intestines thereby supporting cellular integrity and decreasing inflammation. For fibre I use Psyllium hulls. Psyllium is inexpensive and available from health stores. Another very useful colon detoxifyer is Hydrated Bentonite, available at health stores. Hydrated Bentonite has a molecule smaller than a water molecule and capable of carrying many times more than it’s size in toxins.
Mix 1 x Tablespoon Psyllium and 1 x Tablespoon Hydrated Bentonite with water and drink as quickly as you can, because it turns into goop very quickly. It’s tasteless but can’t say I love the texture. ugh!!
Note: If getting Psyllium and Hydrated Bentonite puts this in the too-hard basket, just leave it out. For a one day detox it is not crucial, but an aid. Better to do the detox without it than not at all. For longer than a day I recommend using it.
A detox day might look something like this:
7:00 a.m. Deep Cleansing Grapefruit Juice – 8 x grapefruits freshly juiced
8:00 a.m. 1 Tbs psyllium + 1 Tbs Hydrated Bentonite mixed with water and drink.
Follow with :Juice 1 collard green leaf, 1 kale leaf, handful spinach, 1 stalk celery, small handful parsley, 2 tart apples. Serve over ice.
Noon 1Tbs psyllium + 1 Tbs Hydrated Bentonite mixed with water and drink.
Watermelon Juice. Blend watermelon with Ice or add ice to juice
5.30 p.m. 1 Tbs psyllium + 1 Tbs Hydrated Bentonite mixed with water and drink.
OJ Banana Raspberry Smoothie, 5 x oranges, 1 banana, 1 cup raspberries or any other good looking fruit, a handful of green leafy vegetables. Blend .
Drink as much of any of these juices and smoothies as you need. Make another one if you get too hungry.
Drink a lot of good water, with a slice of lemon, lime or cucumber in it.
