Addicted to Stress

Addicted to Stress: A Woman’s 7 Step Program To Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity In Life, by Debbie Mandel is an excellent book and resource.

What’s so great about it?

In this humorous and witty book, Debbie Mandel speaks to women and the many ways our lifestyles promote stress. Debbie is a stress management expert (and of course we all know her as an awesome radio personality.) What she offers in this book is original and may very well be your answer to overcoming your daily stressors and building up your resistance to the pressures that can overwhelm you.

addicted to stress

Debbie begins her book with a story – she went outside to sit in her garden and relax for a few minutes with a cup of coffee. But she notices a weed entering and spreading through her perennials, a flower that’s dangling and a few other imperfections. Instead of relaxing – she starts cleaning up her garden… letting her coffee get cold.

Instead of relaxing… she let her thoughts of the flaws in the garden nag at her interrupting her few moments of relaxation.

How many times do you find yourself in that situation? Have you ever considered that stress is addicting?

The very first thing in this book that hit home with me was Debbie’s statement:

“Instead of living happily ever after, women everywhere are forever on high alert, forever responsible, and forever giving. the worst part of this is that women – my students, my colleagues, myself included – all seem to be trapped in a terrible habit of continuing, never-ending, self-driven activities that are in response to what we perceive to be terrible pressures at home and, for many of us, in the workplace. We can’t stop, we’re addicted to stress, we’re stress addicts!”

And the reality of this statement was a wake-up call for me:

“Stress addiction is equivalent to identity theft – and we are the thief robbing ourselves of joy and spontaneity.”

The information in this book will liberate you if you’re willing to read it with an open mind and a commitment to practice what you learn… I’m totally amazed at the difference in my daily life by following the 7 steps.

The 7 steps will give you self-confidence, self-care, healthy narcissism, and renewing humor in relationships.

And the 7 steps to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity are:

1. Be Aware of Your Own Stress Addiction

In this first step you will be taking a hard look at yourself. You’ll also find out what stress addiction is, what the profile of a female stress addict is, the symptoms of a stress addict, the value of being aware, and so much more.

2. Reclaim Your Identity

This is an amazing chapter – you will get reacquainted with who you were before you became a wife, mother, and caregiver. Have you ever stopped and thought for a moment… who am I? It’s time to find out!

3. Learn to Become a Healthy Narcissist

Although we think negatively of narcissism – you’ll learn how to use it and why it’s a positive attribute!

4. Build a Healthy Body

Easier said than done… but, after reading this book you’ll look at a healthy body in a new light.

5. Cultivate Your Sense of Fun and Humor

Humor, fun, and laughter reduce stress. You’ll learn how to apply it to many aspects of your life and start living and laughing again!

6. Jump-Start Your Libido

Reclaim your sensuality – be the you that you want to be!

7. Reframe Your Thoughts

Wouldn’t you like to be able to turn on your potential optimism and be able to bounce resiliently back from a crisis, setback, or conflict? You will be able to when you discover the power of thought.

You’ll also read humorous and inspiring stories of women that have had a successful recovery from stress addiction.

Addicted to Stress: A Woman’s 7 Step Program to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity in Life is a must read for anyone who experiences even a little stress in their daily life.

This would make a wonderful gift for a friend of to yourself. Every woman deserves to benefit from the anecdotes and tips that are sprinkled throughout this from this wonderful book.
