Aged Care Certificate

-

Working with the elderly can be extremely awarding. While certification is required, depending on the country that you live, you may not need actual aged care certification. In fact, aged care certification is awarded in Australia. However, in the United States, the certification that is needed for this type of work is a CNA, or Certified Nurses Assistant.

If you live or plan to work in Australia, there are several different levels of education that you can receive for your aged care certificate. The education for this certification goes from Level III to Level IV. This certification will allow you to provide general assistance and care to elderly people, including household assistance. Emotional support for your clients will also be extremely important.

A certified aged care worker will often work in the client’s home, but may also work in nursing homes, hospitals, or adult day programs. In order to be successful in this career, you must have genuine caring attitude for other people, a willingness to perform domestic chores or duties, and be able to deal with situation of ill or frail people as well.

The income potential for aged care workers varies, depending on the size of the institution that you become employed at, your training, and your experience. Many people who get their aged care certificate will often continue their education, and go into nursing or other age related health professions, such as becoming a service coordinator.

If you are in the United States, you will be seeking a CNA, instead of aged care certification. Most nursing homes and other institutions that deal with the elderly or the ill will require this certification in order to become employed as a nurse’s aid, or nurse’s assistant, and many who receive this certification will continue their education to become a nurse practitioner.
