There are so many books on these topics in today’s market, it can be confusing which one you should buy.
Different books may touch on the same subjects, yet they can be so different.
Each year more books are published. Yet we still face overweight and obesity issues as well as many health issues related to poor eating habits and lack of physical activity.
There are many excellent references at our disposal. Many of these books not only give you the proper choices in food, they also educate you about foods geared towards healing.

Pick It Kick It Review
Can I say how happy I am that Pick It Kick It by Diane Hart ended up in my mail box. I am a big fan of the Eat This Not That series and now Oxygen has come out with their own version developed specifically for women.
Oxygen magazine has been the authority on proper nutrition and fitness, helping countless readers reach their weight-loss goals and better their lives. They decided to turn their very popular Pick It Kick It column into a book and I am glad that they did. There are over 1000 choices throughout the book that will help you eat healthier and lose weight.

A favorite part of the book for me is not the number of choices you will find on how to trim calories from your meals, but rather the motivational stories from women just like us. Throughout the book you will find women retelling their weight loss stories to help keep you motivated in pursuing your goals. This is something this book does that a lot of other weight loss books I have read do not. Motivation is a big part of sticking to your goals, and these stories about real individuals will do nothing but inspire.
There are 48 recipes in the back and although I have to admit, I have not tried making any of these in my kitchen yet, some of the options look delicious. Some examples are Whole Wheat Pasta Salad with Chicken, Shrimp Black Bean and Feta Cheese Tacos, Ginger Chicken, Cocoa Muffins, Tropical Blast Shake, Power Protein Parfait and more.

The Truth About Abs
Getting sexy female abs are a staple in the fitness world. There are a lot of ab books out there that are a waste of money because they all pretty much talk about the same old stuff. Most books are just a rehash of what has already been written, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I purchased and read The Truth About Six Pack Abs by Micheal Geary. I was seriously impressed by some of the information in his book and I wanted to get online to write a review while it is fresh in my head.
Note: As a note I would just like to mention that Michael’s book is a downloadable eBook in pdf format that you can get by e-mail as soon as you order it online.
Now I had heard a lot about Truth About Abs and how it helped many women get the sexy female abs they had always wanted. I wanted to check this source out to make sure it wasn’t some scam. When I went to the site I was not surprised to see that it looked like most sales promotion pages on the internet. Very pitchy, very hyped up, but I did notice that he talked a lot about some of the things I mention on my website about actually eating right and exercising so I bought the book.
Truth About Six Pack Abs is 149 pages of solid information on nutrition and exercise written by personal trainer Michael Geary. He not only discusses exercises, but he also talks about nutrition and offers a number of different meal plans for you to follow. He provides his customers with his e-mail address, which made me more comfortable about the product I had bought. He also sends you his newsletter with exercise and workout tips.
When I started reading this book I was blown away by the amount of nutritional information provided. The first 50 pages are a detailed explanation of what nutritional steps you need to take to get those sexy abs you have always wanted. This is the most detailed nutritional section I have ever seen in a fitness book. I was surprised by some of the things I learned like how growth hormones in food like beef and chicken can actually make you fatter and how different types of teas can combat fat storage.
Running this site, I know a lot about fitness and exercises but I was delighted to have actually learned something new and valuable.
After the nutrition section, Mike talks about the anatomy of your abs. How are you supposed to get sexy abs if you do not know exactly what you are trying to work, right? It’s a good review for anyone so I would not skip over the section.
After that, Mike gets into the exercises. Most of these exercises focus on strength training and weight lifting, which I loved. Now ladies please do not be scared away by strength training. It really is needed to get great female abs. He does not tell you to go run on a treadmill for hours. He recommends the best exercises to burn fat and that’s through strength training. So he got big bonus points for that. Not only does he tell you the exercises, he clearly explains them and has colored photos for you to follow.
I’ve read a lot of books where they explain the exercises but do not show you any pictures. They leave you to go and do some research. You don’t have to do that with Mike’s book.
Most of the exercises in this book would be better off performed in a gym, but if you have a home gym or some weights you can do the exercises in your home. He also offers alternative exercises such as ab fitness ball exercises. So if you do not have a gym membership, do not feel like you have to go out and buy one to get the most out of this book.
So if you are looking for the truth behind getting sexy female abs, Truth About Six Pack Abs has it all from the best ab exercises to solid nutrition information and samples meals.
Abs Diet For Women
The Abs diet for Women is the follow up to David Zinczenko’s Abs Diet, which was originally written with the male fitness buff in mind. I am happy to say that the female version of The Abs Diet is not just a rehash of the same information. TDavid actually took the time to rewrite some of the material to include sections specific to women’s health and fitness. In fact, I believe the female version of the book has over 100 pages of extra information in it than the original.
I am happy that the information found in the first book can now be fully utilized by women looking to get a flat stomach. The Abs Diet for Women highlights 10 reasons to have a sexy washboard abs. Some are:
- Attracting the opposite sex
- Better self-esteem Warding off illness
- Helping you sleep
- Beating back pain
Just to name a few. One of the promises of the Abs Diet is that you can lose up to 12 pounds in your first six weeks. The program is designed to help anyone who wants to shrink and tone their midsection, no matter how big it is currently.
What I really like about this book is that it is not a fix it quick approach. It actually gives you solid tools to use fitness and nutrition wise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He does this by providing you with over 700 ab friendly foods that you can take on the go with you. There is also the “Lesser of Two Evils” section of the book (a personal favorite of mine) where he helps you make healthier decisions in what you are eating.
Also, the exercises in the book have been replaced by female participants. This makes the book much less intimidating to the female reader.
I can’t think of anything negative about this book. It’s very thorough and enlightening. You can still eat delicious foods, ignore the calorie count and slim your tummy at the same time. You owe it to yourself to at least read through this book. What are you waiting for? Get the flat stomach you have always wanted today.
Diabetes and Heart Healthy Meals for Two Review
The Diabetes and Heart Healthy Meals for Two provides 170 plus delicious recipes to help both of you eat right and eat well!
The ADA (American Diabetes Association) and AHA (American Heart Association) combined forces to create this excellent and healthy cookbook. If you’re looking for recipes that serve two or you are single and want to keep leftovers minimized, this would be a good fit for you.
Need recipes for three or four – no problem, it’s easy to double the ingredients and you still have diabetes and heart healthy meals!
Meal preparation averages ten minutes (not including cooking time) which is a really important feature for me! And the foods used can be picked up at your local grocery store.
All of the recipes include information on calories, fat, sodium, cholesterol, carbohydrates, protein, and diabetic exchanges. This is a nice feature to keep it simple for you.
Appetizers, snacks, soups, salads, seafood, poultry, meats, vegetarian entrees, veggies and side dishes, breakfast dishes, breads, and desserts are all included.
I’ve tried several recipes and I have to say the Raspberry Citrus Cheesecake is awesome!
- 1/3 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
- Cooking spray
- 2 low-fat vanilla wafers, very finely crushed
- 1/2 cup fat-free ricotta cheese
- 1 tablespoon low-fat cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
- Line a plate with paper towels and place the frozen raspberries in a single layer to thaw.
- Pour the lemon juice into a small microwaveable cup and sprinkle the gelatin on top and stir. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- Place the paper bake cups in two cups of a muffin pan, very lightly spray the bottoms of the cups with cooking spray. Put the crumbs in the cups and set aside.
- Stir the gelatin mixture, then cover and microwave on 100% power for 30 seconds. Set aside to cool for about 3 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ricotta, cream cheese, sugar, and lime juice. The mixture will not be completely smooth. Whisk in the cooled gelatin mixture.
- Sprinkle the raspberries over the mixture and fold them in. Spoon over the cookie crumbs. Using a spatula – smooth the filling. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 3 hours or until firm.
- To serve – run a flat knife around the outside of each bake cup. Carefully slip the tip of the knife under the bottom of the bake cup and life the wrapper and cheese cake out of the muffin pan. Invert the cheesecakes onto saucers and carefully peel of the bake cups.

Gym or Workout at Home?
This section gives you advantages and disadvantages of both working out in a gym or at home.
The workout plans are usable whether you want to work out in a gym or at home. The charts are planned out for you with the types of exercises, the time required for each exercise, and the descriptions of how to do each exercise properly.
Your workout sessions will be three to five days a week with thirty minutes to an hour for each workout.
Nutrition and Diet
This section will reinforce healthy eating habits and the way to obtain the vitamins your body requires naturally by eating the right foods.
You won’t find a planned diet program, but you will find healthy tips to eating properly that go along with making a healthy lifestyle change.
Often we choose to start a program and jump in full speed ahead. Unfortunately if you have not been physically active you’ll find yourself too sore to want to continue.
On the other hand, if you’ve been physically active and find yourself losing weight, you’ll be extremely happy until you hit the plateau that no matter what you do, the weight loss has stopped.

Melt Fat Away The Healthy Way!
Melt fat away… we are always looking for ways to accomplish this. If you’re like me, you’ve purchased book after book looking for the answers on “how to do it.” This book is one worth buying.
In fact, I’ve purchased so many fitness and nutrition books over the years, I normally won’t buy one unless it comes highly recommended.

You don’t have to give up your favorite foods. In fact, you will actually eat, and if you’ve been doing fad diets, you’ll be eating more and still melt fat away.
A New Way of Thinking
Lynn focuses on true fitness and health. I was pleasantly surprised to find we agree on several important issues.
Dieting is not the answer, it doesn’t work. Weight loss is not your “primary goal,” your health is. Eating less doesn’t help you lose weight, if anything, after a while it creates weight issues.
From my personal experiences, starvation diets don’t work. Yes you can lose weight, but do you keep it off?
Do you eat good and healthy foods or have to give up food groups? Do you have to give up your favorite foods? Do you melt fat away?
There isn’t a “quick fix” to weight loss. You didn’t gain it over night, and it doesn’t come off over night.
I have been eating healthy and working out for a long time. Although I have already lost my weight, I still gained strength, energy, motivation and some great new exercise routines from Lynn’s book.

Nutrition Book Review of Food Cures by Joy Bauer
This nutrition book review was a joy to do. (Pun intended.)
Food Cures, authored by Joy Bauer, MS, RD, CDN with Carol Svec, is an excellent, easy-to-read book.
Joy Bauer is well known as the nutrition expert for the “Today Show.” She is an expert in her field and has a great sense of humor that comes through making this book an enjoyable and easy read.
There are six parts to her book.
Part One, is Welcome to My Office and Think Like A Nutritionist.
By the time you read this, you’ll feel like you’ve personally met Joy. You’ll also know what to expect from her book.
The other five parts cover weight loss; beautiful skin, hair, and teeth; cardiovascular disease, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and osteoporosis; cataracts, memory, mood, migraines, premenstrual syndrome, insomnia, irritable bowl syndrome, and celiac disease.
She also covers how to read a nutrition label, and her food picks with calorie, fiber and fat counts.
The 4 Step Program – Nutrition Book Review
Each topic gives information that explains what affects that topic, how food affects that topic, foods to limit or avoid, and good foods to choose.
Step 1, Start with the basics… she explains what you need to do to get started.
Step 2, Your ultimate grocery list… she provides your grocery list that covers that topic.
Step 3, Going above and beyond…she shows you everything you can do on that topic.
Step 4, Meal Plans… she has created sample menus and snacks with recipes that include the foods you should eat regarding that topic.
Additionally, bonus points are extremely helpful tips to help you achieve your goals.
This book is laid out well, supported by references and extremely informative. This was one nutrition book review I enjoyed doing.
After reading this book I can say that Joy makes it easy and clear to understand the world of nutrition. She keeps it real and this 4 step guide is exactly that, simple and real!
Food Cures is designed to treat common health concerns, help you achieve longevity and much more.
Super Healing Book Review
Super Healing by Julie K. Silver, MD, is one of the most incredible books I’ve read on rehabilitation and the Healing Zone. It is a book of hope for those that want to reach a higher level of health status.
About the Author
Dr. Silver is a well-known authority in physiatry (physical medicine and rehabilitation). She is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. She is also on the medical staff at Brigham and Women’s, Massachusetts General, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospitals.
You may have read her book, After Cancer Treatment: Heal Faster, Better, Stronger. It was recognized by the Library Journal as one of the top health books in 2006.
Dr. Silver is a breast cancer survivor. Although she has been a physiatrist (rehabilitation doctor) for some time, I truly believe when you have tread the water in the footsteps of others, it makes you more of an expert in your field. She has tread the water and survived.
