Colleges with Forensic Science

Forensic Science and criminology are becoming extremely popular among students.  Many colleges are adding forensic science minor and majors to their academic programs as a result.

Forensic scientists are a great asset to law enforcement in helping to solve criminal cases with the use of research and analyzing of physical evidence collected from crime scenes.  The results are based on scientific testing and observations and are part of the investigation; therefore the forensic scientist will often be called upon to testify in court about their methods of testing and the results of the testing.

There are some specialty careers within forensic science such as DNA analysis, tests and reports.  Various evidence work including hair analysis, weapons and bodily fluids also can be specialties.  Advanced education in specific areas can provide you with the knowledge needed to specialize in these and other areas of forensic science.  Most students are not required to specialize during undergraduate programs which can be helpful in readily achieving employment.

Forensic Scientists need to have an extraordinary attention to detail. They should enjoy the studies of mathematics and science.  They will need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Good written and verbal communication skills are a must in this demanding field.

Forensic science positions generally require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in forensic science, biology, chemistry, physics or physical anthropology.  There are colleges that offer the complete program of study to achieve a bachelor degree and most offer advanced education for specialization.  The best college would be the college that offers all the classes you require to enter the field of forensic science and also if you plan to specialize the classes required for that purpose.

Forensic Science offers a rewarding and challenging career with opportunities to continue to learn and advance in the constantly changing world of criminology and forensic science.
