Courses to Become a Yoga Instructor

-

Yoga seems to become more and more popular as time passes. While many will use yoga as a form of exercise, even those who are not seeking a good physical workout will practice yoga as a form of stress relief. Because of the increasing popularity in yoga, if you have any interest in becoming a personal trainer or physical fitness instructor, you need to know how to become a yoga instructor as well.

Yoga group class

You may think that knowing yoga is enough to become an instructor, but it isn’t. First, you need to determine which style of yoga you wish to instruct, and you may want to teach more than one style. You need to know how to lead a class, the principles of yoga, how to protect participants from injuries, and much more. Furthermore, you will want to become certified as a yoga instructor.

Although certification as a yoga instructor is not actually required in the United States, it is very difficult to get a decent job as an instructor without certification. Certification can come from a wide range of organizations, but the preferred certification is usually through the Yoga Alliance, although other certification may be accepted.

Regardless of the organization that you choose for certification, you can be sure that the organization will have requirements concerning the training that you have received before you will be eligible to take the exam for certification. While there are some job opportunities for those who are not certified, those who do have certification will always earn the highest salary.

Before you decide to become a yoga instructor, you will want to participate in yoga classes yourself, as a student. From there, you will want to find a good school – preferably a school that is approved through certification organizations. You will need between 150 and 200 hours of training before you can take your certification examination.
