EKG Technician Training Online

-

EKG technicians, also known as cardiographic technicians, are an important part of a medical team when dealing with the human heart and many health conditions. If you are in the healthcare field, or wish to become a part of this special group of people, you might want to consider EKG Technician courses and training online.

It is vital that you understand that an EKG Technician is not the same as an echocardiographer or a cardiovascular technician. The job of the cardiographic technician is to get the patient set up and wired up for an electrocardiogram. This is done by attaching electrodes to the patient, and to get a print out of the reading from the electrocardiogram machine. Because this is the main role that an EKG technician plays in a person’s healthcare, it is wise from this professional to have another role in the healthcare field as well, such as a nurse, a sonographer, or even a nurse’s aide.

If you are already working in the healthcare field, you probably will not be required to attend school to become an EKG Technician as well. Instead, you can typically participate in training through a local hospital, which usually takes between four and six weeks. Most EKG Technicians receive on-the-job training. There are, however, programs that are offered through a variety of schools for a more advanced education in this field. Many people who start out as an EKG Technician will go on to attend two year technologist programs. Technologists have greater responsibilities, and of course earn more money. Some programs for EKG Technicians last about a year, and some last longer.

While states do not require credentialing or certification for EKG Technicians, most employers will require certification or credentialing. This can be obtained through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International organization or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers organization. Both organizations require a certain amount of education or training before you will be eligible to sit for the examination.
