We are getting ready to begin our Minnesota Farm Adventure. We are excited to get out into the fields, munch on the freshest of produce right at the site and mingle with the farmers that make yummy things grow.
But for many people, they just don’t have the time or the desire to go directly to farms. So where do most people get their produce in the summertime?
In Minnesota we are very fortunate to have so many options for produce, and so many different Farmers Markets. No matter where you live all around the state, there is a Farmers Market near you. In fact many of the destinations of the Farm Adventure will be at various Farmers Markets scattered around Minnesota.
For other parts of the country, there is great news – Farmers Markets are on the rise!
According to this USDA website, they are reporting that in the year 2006 there were over 4,300 Farmers Markets around the country. That is an 18.2% increase over the previous two years! And it seems the growth is not stopping anytime soon. Just look at the graph! Farmers Markets are hot, baby!
Demand for local produce has grown considerably, and we raw foodists love our food fresh and local whenever possible!
So let’s hear it for the Farmers Markets!
If you have a favorite Farmers Market story, want to give a shout out to your Farmers Market of choice, or are simply looking forward to our Farm Adventure, leave a comment and tell us about it!
We will begin our first destination of the Farm Adventure very soon, so stay tuned!
P.S. I have to thank the authors for mentioning this information on his entertaining and informative food blog. Although his blog is not about raw food, it is always a fascinating read, as it helps me keep plugged into the pulse of what is happening in the world of food. His recipes always inspire me to make raw versions of his creative culinary delights. Whenever I read any of this posts, I don’t know why, but I always feel like smiling.
