Geriatric Management Courses Online

-

Geriatric Management, also known as Geriatric Care Management, is a growing field, as people are living longer and longer. Regardless of how healthy we are, at some point, our bodies simply start to wear out, and health problems will arise.

As a Geriatric Management Professional, your duties would include doing assessments to identify problems, to determine which programs clients are eligible for, and which services are needed. It is typically also your responsibility to secure help in the home of your clients, as it is warranted, and you may also need to arrange for outside healthcare as well, including mental health services.

Additionally, as a Geriatric Manager, you may be responsible for dealing with financial and legal matters for your clients, or in obtaining outside professionals to help with those issues. In your role as a Geriatric Manager, you may also provide counseling, education, advocacy, crisis intervention, and guidance to your clients, but your role will greatly depend on the education and qualifications that you actually have.

Geriatric Managers typically have some other type of degree, and these degrees are usually in either nursing or social work. As either type of professional, you can expect to earn a higher salary than those who are in your field without any type of specialization. However, if you are a nurse, you will most likely need to return to school to obtain a degree in either Gerontology or Social Work, while Social Workers can generally get away with just getting certified as a Geriatric Manager. Overall, despite your educational background, as this type of professional, you can expect to earn between $65,000 and $70,000 annually.

As a Geriatric Manager, you can work in home health care, for government agencies, for hospitals, for nursing homes, and for private companies that cater to senior citizens. Currently, there are no shortages of opportunities in this field, and because we are living longer, this is not expected to change anytime soon.
