There are many people who cannot control, be it constant or not, the tremor of their hands. The self-unconscious or, more exactly, self-unnoticed tremor is a dangerous signal indicating that there are some disorders in the basal ganglion and the cerebellum. A group of medical scientists assume that the tremor may sometimes occur to the whole body from fear, anxiety, hysteria, etc. They also say these are, though temporarily, also from some disorders of brain. For example, people under Parkinson’s disease are showing that their hands are trembling 4 to 5 times a second; however, when the hands are moving, the shaking temporarily disappears.
That is from the melanin pigmentation that causes the demolition of cells around the mid brain, so called substantia nigra. Then, the secretion of dopamine(nerve transmitter substance) drastically shrinks.
Wilson’s disease, which strikes before the middle age, may also cause the tremor of hands(6 to 8 times a second) more faster than that of Parkinson’s disease. This is especially brought by the copper accumulated in the basal ganglion.
Other than these, there are many other reasons for that: addiction of drug, hyperthyroidism, excessive stimulation or fear. In above cases, the tremor occurs speedily but lightly. For people who habitually drink, it gets severer after the night of heavy drink; however, it disappears with another shot and again appears when the person gets sober.
Followings are the causes of the tremor of hands in the oriental medicine:
- (1) when the ‘ki’ of liver and kidney gets weak and its circulation is not active thereby causing the lack of oxygen supply into brain;
- (2) when the autonomic nerve gets stimulated due to the stress causing weak metabolism. The herbal treatment for the tremor is jujube. When boiled with water and taken, it can be pretty helpful.
