Indications 1. Epidemic febrile diseases due to excessive heat in the Ki system with symptoms of high fever, dire thirst. 2. Cough due to lung-heat or dry cough with yellow and thick sputum due to deficiency of yin. 3. Hyperactivity of fire marked by hectic fever due to yin deficiency(live yin or kidney yin), vexation and night sweating. 4. Diabetes due to yin deficiency with manifestations of dry mouth, thirst, polydipsia, polyuria, etc.
Dosage and administration 6-12g. stir-baked with salt water for nourishing yin and removing fire.
Precautions 1.It is improper to use it on cases of loose stools due to defiency of the spleen

For the treatment of headache, dizziness and blurred vision due to hyperactivity of the liver-yang 3. For headache and blood-shot eyes due to flaring-up of liver-fire 4. For the treatment of febrile diseases with symptoms of high fever, unconsciousness, delirium and madness, or skin eruptions due to toxic heat in both ki and blood division.
Dosage and administration 0.3~0.5g powder for infusion drinking; 1~3g in decoction

Precautions 1.It should not be used for patients who have no pathogenic heat of excess type in the interior.

Effects tonifying the ki, lifting the sunken yang, streng­thening the defensive energy and superficial resistance, pro­moting pus discharge and tissue regeneration, and inducing diuresis to cure edema
Indications 1. Anorexia, loose stool and short breath due to spleen-ki and stomach-ki deficiency. 2. chronic diarrhea or anal prolapse due to sinking of ki in the middle energizer. 3. Spontaneous sweating and night sweat resulting from exterior deficiency due to deficiency of ki.
4. For the non-rupture of carbuncles or slow healing long after ulceration of carbuncles.
5. For the treatment of subcutaneous edema,. scanty urine resulting from the dysfunction of the spleen in transport due to deficiency of Ki
Dosage and administration 4~12g; 30~60g can be given in large dosage, decocted in water for oral use. For replenishing qi and invigorating yang, it should be stir-baked; for other purposes, it should be used unprepared.
Precautions 1. It should not be used in the following cir­cumstances: exterior syndrome of excess type with excessive pathogenic factors, stagnation of qi and retention of dampness in the interior, retention of food due to dyspepsia, hyperac­tivity of yang due to deficiency of yin, initial carbuncles and boils, or protracted ulceration still with excessive noxious heat. When it is given in big dosage, it may lead to stuffiness in the chest, abdominal distension, poor appetite, ect. Iii such cases drugs for promoting the circulation of qi and improving appetite such as tangerine peel, can be given according to the actual circumstances.

This drug is the rhizome of Atractylodes cancea DC. and A. chinensis(DC) koiclz. or A. japonica koiclz

Indications 1. For retention of dampness in the middle energizer with manifestations of anorexia, epigastric distress, abdominal distension, loose stool, nausea and vomiting, mass in the abdomen, lassitude, white-turbid and greasy tongue coating, etc. 2. For arthralgia-syndrome due to wind-cold and dampness with pain in the joints and extremities. 3. Eye problems such as oculopathy, optic atrophy, night blindness, etc.
Dosage and administration 5-10g.
Precautions 1.For removing dampness and stregthening, it is used prepared; For dispelling wind it is used unprepared.

Agastache

Agastache
This drug is the whole plant of Pogostemon cablin Benth. Or Agastache rugosa(Fisch. et Mey.)O. Ktze.
Effects removing dampness, relieving exterior syndrome and summer-heat, promoting appetite and stopping vomiting.
Indications 1. For retention of dampness in the middle energizer with manifestations of anorexia, oppressive chest, epigastric distress, abdominal distension, loose stool, nausea and vomiting. 2. For syndromes by exopathogenic wind-cold or interior impairment by eating uncooked or cold food during summer months or by summer heat with manifestations of vomiting, diarrhea, fever, headache, dizziness, chest oppression, abdominal distension, aversion to cold, etc. 3. Various kinds of vomiting. Agastache is most suitable for vomiting resulting from adverse flow of stomach-ki due to pathogenic dampness in the spleen and stomach.
Dosage and administration 5-10g.

Amomum Fruit
This drug is the dried ripen fruit of Amomum villosum Lour. or Ammum lanthiodes Wall. (Family Zingiberaceae).
Effects resolving dampness to improve appetite, warming the spleen to stop diarrhea, and regulating the activities of ki to prevent abortions.
Indications 1. For epigastric fullness and abdominal distension, anorexia, vomiting and diarrhea due to retention of dampness in the middle energizer and stagnation of ki. 2. Diarrhea due to deficiency of the spleen and accumulation of cold-dampness in the intestines. 3. For Pernicious vomiting and threatened abortion.
Dosage and administration 3~6g Break into pieces, and then decoct.

This drug is the root of Aucklandia lappa Decne and Vladimiria souliei Ling of family Compositae.

Indications 1. Various symptoms induced by stagnation of ki in colon and stomach, it has effect of promoting circulation of ki and relieving pain, such as abdominal distention, anorexia and vomiting. 2. For abdominal pain, diarrhea and tenesmus due to damp-heat or food retention.
Dosage and administration 3~10g It is usually used with unprepared for promoting circulation of ki to relieve pain ; roasting in fresh cinders for arresting diarrhea. not decocted for a long time.

Bupleurum Root
This drug is the root of Bupleurum chinense DC or Bupleurum scorzonerifolium Willd.
Effects expelling pathogenic factors from the exterior to reduce fever, soothing the depressed liver and invigorating the spleen-yang.
Indications 1. Fever of common cold and alternate spells of chills and fever, feeling of oullness and discomfort in the chest and hypochochondrium, bitter taste in the mouth and dryness in the throat due to pathogenic changes in the shaoyang channel in exo-genous febrile diseases. 2. Stagnation of the liver-qi shown as feeling of fullness and oppression in the chest and disphragm region, distending pain in the hypochondrium region, etc. In cases of irregular menstruation due to stagnation of the liver-qi and deficiency of the blood. 3. Proctoptosis, hysteroptosis, gastroptosis and short brea-th, fatigue and lassitude due to deficiency and sinking of qi.

Precautions 1.Black plum has a strong astringent action, so it should not be prescribed to patients with residual pathogenic factors in the exterior and heat of excessive type and stagnancy in the interior

For exterior syndrome of excess type with no sweat. 2. Arthralgia due to wind-cold-dampness manifested as aching joints of the shoulders and limbs. For the syndrome with wind-dampness in the exterior and with deficiency of exterior-yang. 3. For blood stasis due to pathogenic cold in the blood of women with manifestations of irregularr menstruation, amenor-rheal abdominal pain and mass in the abdomen. 4. For cold syndrome of deficiency type in the middle-jiao

Indications 1. Exopathogenic febrile diseases with excessive fire and heat in the blood manifested as high fever, dysphoria, unconsciousness and delirium. In cases with exuberant fire due to hyperactivity of the heart shown as restlessness and insomnia and canker sores in the mouth. 2. Damp-heat syndrome of the large intestine manifested as diarrhea, dysentery and tenesmus. In cases of excessive fire in the manifested as poor appetite, nausea and vomiting. 3. Superficial suppurative infections, such as sores, carbuncles, furuncles and boils, septicemia induced by furunculosis, swellings and pain in the ears and eyes, canker sores in the mouth, exudative skin infections and pruritus.

Cinnamon Bark
This drug is the bark of the trunk and thick branches of Cinnamomum cassia Presl.
Effects supplementing fire of the vital gate to strengthen yang, dispelling cold to relieve pain, warming up and clearing the channels.
Indications 1. For insufficiency of the kidney-yang and decline of vital fire energy shown as aversion to cold, cold limbs, cold pain in the waist and knees, impotence and frequent micturition. 2. For stomachache and diarrhea resulting from cold deficiency in the middle energizer due to deficiency of kidney-yang ; amenia and menorrhalgia due to cold ; arthralgia due to wind-cold. 3. Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon Twig have same effects warming blood, helping Ki-system, dispersing coldness; Cinnamon Bark acts on lower energizer, replenishing kidney-yang, Twig acts on upper energizer, makes channel runs.
Dosage and administration 2~6g
Precautions 1.It should not be given to pregnant patients and those with excess yang and deficiency of yin.

Clove
This drug is the flower bud of the evergreen tree Eugenia Caryophyllata Thunb. of family Myrtaceae.
Effects Warming middle energizer and kidney, lowering the adverse rising, dispersing cold in stomach and lower abdomen.
Indications 1. For vomiting and hiccup resulting from upward reverse due to cold in the stomach and middle ki’s stop traspotation. 2. For vomiting, diarrhea and anorexia due to cold of deficiency type in spleen and stomach 3. For impotence, low limbs weakness and leukorrhea due to deficiency of kidney-yang.
Dosage and administration 2~5g
Precautions 1.should not be used for febrile disease and those with inferior heat and yin deficiency.

This drug is the ripe fruit of the perennial herbaceous plant Foeniculum vulgare Mill of family Umbelliferae.
Effects warming kidney and dispersing cold, alleviating pain, regulating the floe of Ki and normalizing functions of the stomach
Indications 1. For abdominal colic due to accumulation of cold in the liver channel of low abdomen region. 2. For dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea resulting from stagnation of blood during menstruation due to cold. 3. Cyperus Tuber
This drug is the rhizome of Cyperus rotundus L. of family Cyperaceae.
Effects soothing the liver, regulating the circulation of qi and regulating menstruation and relieving pain.
Indications 1. For distension, fullness and pain in the chest, hypochondrium and abdomen due to the stagnation of the liver-ki. 2. Irregular menstruation and dysmenorrhea due to stagnation of the liver-ki. 3. For gastro-intestinal colic due to invasion of cold and abdominal pain. 4. For masses in the breast and its swelling before menstruation due to stagnation of ki in the liver channel.
Dosage and administration 6-12g if stir-baked with vinegar, it acts on liver, reinforces the effect of relieving pain.
The herb is used unprepared for promting Ki circulation ; used stewed for arresting diarrhea.
Precautions 1.It should not be used those with deficiency of ki without stagnation of ki ; those with blood-heat due to deficiency of yin.

For hypochondriac pain due to stagnation in the liver channel. 5. For Bi syndrome(numbness and pain of the extremities) due to wind-cold-dampness ; traumatic injuries, sores and other pyogenic skin infections, etc.

Precautions 1.It should not be used those with hyperactivity of yang and deficiency of yin or ki-deficiency syndrome.

This herb is the stem tuber of the perennial herb Corydalis turtschaninovii Bess. f. yanhusuo Y.H. Chou et C. C. Hsu of the family Papaveraceae.

Indications 1. It acts on both ki division and blood division, so it can relieve not only stagnation of ki in blood division, also blood stasis in ki division. 2. Various pain due to stagnation of ki or blood such as pain in the stomach and abdomen, pain in the extremities and abdominal pain during menstruation.
Dosage and administration 4~12g It is used parching with vinegar for relieving pain.
Precautions 1.It should not be used in cases of blood deficiency after delivery, dysmenorrhea due to blood deficiency and pregnancy.

Indications 1. Dysuria, edema due to deficiency of ki and yang; diarrhea due to deficiency of spleen and excessive dampness; stranguria with turbid urine and leukorrhagia due to downward flow of dampness.

This drug is the ripe seed of Sinapis alba L. or Brassica juncea Czern et Coss.
Effects eliminating sputum, promoting the flow of qi, dissolving lumps and subduing swelling.
Indications 1. For accumulation of phlegm-dampness (mainly cold-phlegm in the lung), obstruction of Ki activities, cough, asthma, profuse watery and thin sputum., chest pain and pleural effusion. 2. For treatment of numbness and pain of joints and limbs due to obstrustio I channels by phlegm-dampness. 3. Cold abscess and mycotic lesion due to cold of insufficiency type and multiple or metastatic abscesses due to phlegm-dampness, deep-rooted carbuncle of yin nature, and other pyogenic infections.

This drug is the rhizome of Atraclylodes macrocephala Koidz. (Family Compositae)

Effects replenishing ki and reinforcing the spleen, eli­minating dampness and inducing diuresis, stopping sweating and preventing abortion.
Indications 1. For anorexia, loose stool, epigastric-abdo­minal distention, lassitude and asthenia due to deficiency of the spleen-ki and stomach-ki or failure of the spleen in transporting nutrients.
2. For edema and difficulty in urination due to deficiency of spleen yang and kidney yang. 3. For spontaneous sweating due to deficiency of the sp­leen-ki and exterior deficiency.
Dosage and administration 5~l5g, It is used stir-baked for invigorating Ki and spleen; used unprepared for removing dampness and others
Precautions 1.It should not be used for deficiency of yin with internal heat or dire thirst due to consumption of the body fluid.
