Schizandra sinensis stimulates adrenal cortical activity and is a good help for acute stress situations.

Two Schizandra substances have powerful hepato-protective effects even against compounds as toxic as carbon tetrachloride.

Schizandra is a good help for liver function, especially its effect for the production of various liver detoxifying enzymes.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (Withania sonmiferum) also know as Indian ginseng and is an ideal herb to prevent acute stress. It:

  • Energizes the nervous system

Ashwagandha has ability to increase the body-level of natural powerful antioxidants such as super oxide dismutase (SOD), catalase & glutathion peroxidase (by researcher from Banaras Hindu University, India).

These antioxidants effects are very good to reduce environmental toxins and pollutants.

Jiaogulan Tea

Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is an Asian tea with some positive effects to your health. It contains a variety of saponins, plant chemicals with a structure similar to human steroid hormones. Gotu Kola

Gotu kola is a member of the carrot family and it’s active component is triterpenes. Other active ingredients are magnesium, asiatiocosides and some vitamins. Rhodiola Rosea has been shown to stimulate serotonine, dopamine and norepinephrine activity. It is important for healthy emotional and neurological functions. The positive effects from Rhodiola 100-300 mg/day (standardized extract at least 3 % rosavine and 1 % salidrosides) is better in combination with Magnesium such as as citrate.

Guarana is chemically identical to caffeine and is also known as guaranine. Caffeine is a stimulant for the central nervous system. It increases energy, fights free radicals and enhances memory.

Astragalus Membranaceus helps the body to deal with stress and gives the immune system power. It stimulates the adrenal glands and helps to improve mental functioning.

Panax Ginseng is a popular herb for dealing with stress. It supports the adrenal glands and increases stress resistance for our body in acute stress situations. Ginseng is also believed to improve brain function for more memory and concentration.

Cordyceps Sinensis has a long tradition in the Chinese medicine. This mushroom increases corticosteroid production and has an option as anti-stress support. Cordyceps is also an extremely good mushroom for the immune system.

I recommend natural sweetener Steviosid to the above anti-stress teas.

In case of acute (and chronic) stress white or green tea can have positive and preventive effects. Good relaxing teas are f.e. china jasmine superior with basis of green tea or white tea combination with jasmine tea and rose leaves or another white tea china tai mu long zhu.

Herbs and Other Spices

In acute stress situations, secretion of catecholamines such as epinephrine (adrenaline) & norepinephrine (nor adrenaline) is very important for energy and stress prevention.

Especially helpful may be black pepper, chilli, cayenne, lemon balm, lemongrass or lavendula sea salt.

Herbs and Contraindications or Interactions — Is it Possible?

Guarana is not suitable for people with high blood pressure. You should avoid talking Rhodiola in the evening as it disturbs sleep. Astragalus is a contraindicated f.e. for autoimmune diseases such as lupus (Cordyceps & Ashwagandha are good herbs for lupus). In case of treatment with pharmacy drugs f.e. for blood pressure etc. (or you have a chronic disease) anyway consult your doctor anyway if you are pregnant, nursing or taking any medications, consult as well your doctor before using it. Discontinue use and consult your doctor if any adverse reactions occur.
