You can better understand Holistic Health by first understanding Nature and how it impacts your life…
I’ve studied, practiced and served as a holistic healer all of my adult life, and understanding Nature and how it relates to Ayurvedic practices is something I wish everyone would learn.
Explore the three attributes of Nature which are similar to Yoga and Ayurveda, health and disease, the daily regime and the seasonal regime. This forms the true basis of the three humors of Ayurveda.
The Nature principle or The Holy Ghost exists in two states – the manifested and the unmanifested.
The Unmanifested State Of Nature:
This is the form of nature when the three attributes of nature – Satva, Rajas, Tamas are in equilibrium. In that state nothing is in manifested state, none of the three types of world or bodies. The Conscious principle and the Unmanifest nature exist.
These three attributes of Nature when out of equilibrium, they get transformed into twenty four derived elements of nature. These twenty four derived elements of nature comprise the manifest stage of Nature.
The approximate meaning of the three words for attributes of nature is given.
- Satva – The quality of light, knowledge, freedom, essence, extract, enlightening or elevating
- Rajas – The quality of momentum, movement, force, aggression, fire, heat, activating
- Tamas – The quality of gravity, heaviness, solidity, covered-ness, darkness, covering, stabilizing
The Twenty Four Derived Elements Of Manifested Nature Essential For Holistic Health:
These are the results of the disequilibrium in the three attributes of nature. Together these twenty four elements make the three bodies and the three worlds. These are the foundation and bricks of our physical, astral and causal bodies and all of its activities. Now let us see how the 24 elements are derived by from the Unmanifest Nature and in what order they have originated.
The Three Attributes Of Unmanifested Nature In Equilibrium & Their Manifestation In Three Fold Manifested Nature
The Four Inner Means:
These are the mind, intellect, ego and feeling. Together this quadruplet is known as the four inner-means because they are the innermost tools for perceiving the sense impressions, using this information taking the decision, the center of all these organized perception, and the awareness perceiving principle.
Five Great Elements:
Thence arises the potentials of objective manifestation the five subtle vibratory elements of ether, air, fire, water and earth. Please don’t take them literally. It is the agonizing aspect of translation.
Five Instruments Of Knowledge:
These are the subtle counterparts of the cognitive senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.
Five Instruments Of Action:
These are the mental correspondence for the executive abilities to procreate, excrete, talk, walk and exercise manual skill.
Five Life Energies:
The Five main Prana or Life energies or universal force are active as Prana, Udana, Samana, Vyana and Apana – with their crystallizing, assimilating, metabolizing, circulating and eliminating functions respectively.
These Twenty four elements are also described in Bible as ‘Twenty four Elders’ in the book of Revelation. (4:4)
The Concepts Of Five Sheaths:
Our pure consciousness or soul is having three bodies. The three bodies are depicted in the form of Five sheaths.
- Gross Sheath: This is the physical body and it is maintained by food and proper nutrition.
- The Pranic or Energy sheath: This is the vibrational energy body or subtle body. It is maintained by Universal energy.
- The Mental Sheath: This deals with the function of perceiving the sensations and their processing.
- The Sheath of Intelligence: This deals with the knowledge and wisdom.
- The Shealth of Bliss: This is the innermost covering in direct touch with pure consciousness. It is maintained by the inherent joy of our essential spiritual nature.
The first sheath is related to the physical body, the second, third and fourth are related to subtle body and the fifth is related to causal body.
The Chief Links Between These Three Bodies And Soul:
Physical breathing process represents the intake of life-force in the astral body. So the outer breathing is the masked link to life energy – the connecting agent between physical and astral bodies.
Thoughts are the link between astral body and causal body. Bliss or Joy is the associating link between the causal body and soul.
Further Elucidation Of Twenty Four Elements And Their Manifesting The Three Bodies:
The three attributes of nature – Satva, Rajas and Tamas – after being thrown into disequilibrium are transformed into the awareness assisting being or principle of instrument of feeling. This is next transformed into Five Elemental principles of ether, air, fire, water and earth and the three of the inner-means – Mind or sense conscious, intellect and ego.
The Light part of the these Five elements get transformed into Five instruments of Knowledge. The Activating part of the five elements get transformed into the five instruments of action. The Gross part of the five elements produced the five gross elements.
Thus manifested nature can shortly be described as having Eightfold major principles (Mind, Intellect, Ego, Five Elements) arising from the Feeling principle which in turn is the first manifested state of the Unmanifested nature.
This would be quite intriguing from the first sight. But it would help to understand the common running thread need to understand the concept of Holistic Health from Ayurveda and Yoga point of view.
