Neural Organizational Technique

-

Neural Organizational Technique (NOT) works on the theory that the head is a integral part of the spine. The connection between neurological functioning and health is of prime importance in this form of treatment. Understanding the foundation of Neural Organizational methods offers insight into how this approach works as a form of alternative medicine.

What is Neural Organizational Technique?

The technique is derived from the notion that the spine and the skull are a single functioning unit that influences the health and wellbeing of the individual. The primary neural functioning occurs in a primitive manner, but it has significant impact on the person on psychological and physical levels.

Naturally, the techniques applied in NOT are derivatives of chiropractic medicine. This is readily apparent in the notion that the spine is a center for health, both mental and physical. A chiropractor named Carl Ferreri developed the kinesthetic approach to treating various health conditions.

NOT Theory

The NOT theory suggest that illnesses, allergies, mood disorders and other conditions arise from a disorganized nervous system. When the nervous system is disorganized, the body and mind experience adverse effects. The approach may be compared to an electrical system.

The program focuses on problems that occur when proper processing of information is disrupted. Inappropriate signals from the brain follow, creating various problems within the body’s systems. The misfiring of information followed by improper signals causes physiological responses that can be detrimental.

How Does It Work

The neural organizational technique is kinesthetic in nature, meaning that it involves manipulation from an outside force. The manipulation includes proper spine and neck alignment as well as massage-like pressure on specific points on the body, depending on the individual’s specific needs.

Proponents for the approach suggest that the system can diagnose health problems but it is necessary to seek guidance from an orthodox physician. Testing includes muscle strength and responses to physical manipulation. No scientific evidence support the claim that NOT diagnosis is appropriate or accurate.

Creating balance within the body by manipulating the spine, massaging, and other physical adjustments can be effective for some individuals but it is important to keep in mind that the approach may be best as a complement for traditional medical interventions.

For example, parents who are seeking help for a child with autism may find that their child improves with NOT treatments, but this does not mean that they should abandon other therapies in the child’s treatment plan. The same applies to other conditions that proponents for the technique claim to help.

Who Can Benefit from it?

Those who can benefit from Neural Organizational Technique include people who have the following conditions:

Complementary and alternative medicine includes many different approaches that can augment regular therapies and medical interventions. Neural Organizational Technique may be among the many complements to orthodox medicine that proves to be effective.
