Online Phlebotomy Certification

-

When most people think of Phlebotomists, they think of the professionals who work in blood banks. This is just one area where Phlebotomists work, however. They also commonly work in hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, and other lab settings. The chief duty of a Phlebotomist is to draw blood.

Regardless of where a Phlebotomist chooses to work, one thing is certain. He or she is required to have the appropriate education and the appropriate certification as well. Typically, only an Associate’s degree is required to sit for the certification exam for Phlebotomists, but it has been found that those who hold a bachelor’s degree have the greatest opportunity, with the highest salary offers in the field.

Additionally, you can sit for the board exam if you have completed training through an accredited training program. Such training programs specifically for phlebotomy do exist, and they require anywhere from four to eight months to complete. Because of the short period of time required, the training is quite intense, but it does not result in a degree. The completion of the training only results in a certificate of completion, and certification must still be sought.

Online certification is possible, but usually only for those who are renewing their certification. Whether you certification is obtained online or in a traditional environment, the education that you have had must meet the requirements of the testing agency, as well as the requirements for phlebotomy in your state.

Many Phlebotomists did not actually attend school in order to become a phlebotomist. Instead, they took part in other medical sciences that include phlebotomy, opening up more job possibilities due to that education. It is important to note, however, that certification in any other medical field is not the same as certification for phlebotomy, and in order to practice this medical science, you need the right certification, regardless of the education you’ve received or other certifications that you may hold.
