You need to know that you are entitled to enjoyment in your life. It is your birthright! When you think about it your life has not actually been so chaotic, after all. It is merely your thinking that is chaotic. You need to stop getting attached to those obsolete ideas in your head about who you think you are, who you should be, what you should be doing, what role you should play, or what functions you should carry out.
In the nature of the world, humans experience a series of frustrations because they are expecting the world (and this includes people) to make them happy and complete. Expecting situations, places, people, or things to make you happy and complete is bound to cause frustration. When you can understand this, and see the truth of it, you will free yourself from the cycle of disillusionment.
When you give up your expectations that people, places, situations and material things should make you happy and complete, you will develop the ability to allow things to just be. Most people are in a conflicting relationship with life because they find it difficult to just allow things to be as they are. They internally try to change, reject, criticize, and find faults with the events that happen to them. When you can recognize that the world cannot make you happy and complete, you will drop your expectations. It is absurd to expect something of the world that it cannot deliver.
If arrogance is anything, it is simply the ignorance of not knowing who you really are. It is the ignorance of identifying yourself with a temporary formation of who you think you are.
Your identification with who you think you are, the story in your head in relation to your past and your identification with your self according to your personal appearance is simply a case of mistaken identity. It is not knowing who you are. This is what creates the darkness which stems from the state of illusion you have about your self.
Somewhere from within you, there is a presence, a consciousness, a greater intelligence, and a deep sense of knowing that offers you all the certainties you have wished for when you were afraid or troubled.
This presence, this consciousness, is the only thing you need to know. It is the essence of who you really are. It is a state of presence in which you are connected to a dimension of beauty, joy, love, inner peace, harmony and freedom. Before you realize this truth, you will always be in despair and confusion.
The one thing you need to do is to experience this presence personally and then hold on to the experience forever. To do this you need to focus your attention away from your endless brooding over past experiences and future preoccupations and seek a place of eternal presence from which you may look upon yourself and your surroundings with love, joy, harmony and freedom.
Experience Your Greater Intelligence
Somewhere within you, there is a presence, a consciousness, a greater intelligence, and a deep sense of knowing, that offers you all the certainties you have always wished for.
However your mind will always try to find something to give you an identity. That is, a conceptual identity. It always wants and tries to be Somebody because it cannot accept being a Nobody. It attempts to make up a great story of who you are, which in a way is like a dream that comes and goes.
This is a simple case of mistaken identity. It is not knowing who you are. This is what creates the darkness, which stems from the actions that arise out of that state of illusion you have about your self.
You are here to experience and discover a dimension within yourself that is deeper than thought. Every thought in your mind has a sense of self. The question is are you looking to add more to yourself than you already are? Are you trying to make yourself better than who you are? Are you trying to be better than the other person and have more than them?
Many who have obtained recognition in whatever they have done, are usually not at peace with themselves and seem unhappier after finally having arrived there.
At first it felt good, but they soon realize that it was just an image created in their mind. They pursued it, and having arrived there, could see that very soon the soap bubble was going to pop. Your mind will always try to find something to give you an identity; that is, a conceptual identity. It always wants and tries to be somebody because it does not like to be nobody. It tries to make up a great story of who you are, which in a way, is like a dream that comes and goes.
If you cannot sense that you are special it means you are not present enough. You are still focusing on what is going to happen in the next moment and the moment after.
This is what your mind knows and does. It thinks about what has happened in your past, or what is going to happen to you in the future. This is because your mind only understands past and future. It does not understand the now. In fact, it feels threatened by the now, and so has a constant resistance to the now.
There is an essence within you that is deeper than the movement of thought and all it requires is a certain degree of presence. Consciousness arises the moment you are in touch with this presence.
To be in touch with this presence is to practice living in the now. This involves trying as often as possible to break the continuity of living between past and future. It is to awaken from that stream of thoughts that pull you into your past and future. When you are not looking to the past or future to give you a sense of self, your life will unfold more harmoniously. Your relationships will change because you do not need the other person to enhance your sense of self. You will not need to compare yourself to others and try to be better than them to strengthen your sense of self. Then and only then will you realize that you are special.
What is it that makes this possible? It is the essence of love, joy, inner peace and harmony that is already within you. Every one is searching for it and not many know where to find it. It can only be found in the now.
